What is Venous Insufficiency?
Venous insufficiency occurs when the valves in your leg veins don't work properly, allowing blood to pool in your legs instead of flowing back to your heart. This condition can lead to varicose veins (large, bulging veins), spider veins (small, web-like veins), and other symptoms that affect your comfort and appearance.
How Do Varicose Veins Develop?
When vein valves become damaged or weakened, blood flows backward and pools in your legs. This increased pressure causes veins to stretch, twist, and become visible as varicose veins. Risk factors include age, pregnancy, obesity, prolonged standing, and family history.
